Ultorg Compared With DBeaver, DataGrip, and pgAdmin
DBeaver, DataGrip, and pgAdmin are excellent tools for developers and database administrators who write SQL. Ultorg is built for a different job: exploring and editing data across related tables, without writing a new query every time. The two kinds of tools work well side by side.

Different Tools for Different Jobs
DBeaver is a universal database tool with a SQL editor, a data editor, ER diagrams, and administration features. DataGrip is JetBrains' IDE for databases and SQL. pgAdmin is the open-source administration and development platform for PostgreSQL. All three are centered on SQL and on individual tables.
| SQL clients (DBeaver, DataGrip, pgAdmin) | Ultorg | |
|---|---|---|
| Main way of working | Write SQL queries, or browse one table at a time. | Build queries visually by joining related tables. |
| One-to-many relationships | A flat result table, where each parent row repeats once for each child row. | Nested tables, where each row appears once. |
| Editing data | Edit rows in a table or result grid. | Edit across joins, with dropdowns for foreign keys. Edits are staged for review and applied in one transaction. |
| Schema design and administration | Yes: DDL, users, backups, and more. | Not in scope. Ultorg works with the data, not the schema. |
| Intended users | Developers and database administrators. | Anyone who works with the data, including people who don't write SQL. |
When to Use Ultorg
- Exploring an unfamiliar database, by following foreign keys from table to table.
- Answering questions that involve many tables, without writing and debugging a long query.
- Checking totals, by seeing the individual values behind each aggregate.
- Giving colleagues who don't write SQL a safe way to view and edit the data.
When to Use a SQL Client
Use a SQL client for writing and debugging SQL by hand, changing the schema, managing users and permissions, and database administration tasks such as backups and performance tuning. Ultorg does not try to replace these tools.
You can move between the two. Ultorg's Compile to SQL action turns a visual query into SQL for your database's dialect, which you can paste into a SQL client or your application code.
Ultorg connects to PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL and MariaDB, DuckDB, and BigQuery (with experimental support for Oracle), as well as to Excel, Google Sheets, and CSV files.
DBeaver, DataGrip, and pgAdmin are trademarks of their respective owners. This comparison reflects our understanding of these products as of September 2026.
